Fakirbazar, September 3 - In response to controversial comments made by influential state minister Piyush Hazarika about North Karimganj MLA and state Congress working president Kamalakya Dey Purkayastha, a groundswell of protest has swept through Karimganj district. The border district's Fakirbazar area has joined the chorus of dissent.

Local Congress members, led by district council representative Bajlul Haque Choudhary , Shamim Ahmed  Choudhury,  Abdur Rahman,  Rajon Choudhury,  Rahul Choudhury Abdul Kadir , Aftab Uddin , Anwar Hussain  Choudhury  etc .... , staged a fiery protest on Sunday along National Highway 37 in Fakirbazar, North Karimganj. They symbolically expressed their discontent by burning an effigy of Minister Piyush Hazarika and chanting various slogans against him.

Minister Piyush Hazarika had recently made contentious allegations regarding MLA Kamalakha Dey Purkayastha's past during a visit to Fakir Bazar on Sunday.

Local Zilla Parishad Representative Bajlul Haque Choudhury emphasized the special status of MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha within the Bengali community across the state. Kamalaksh currently wields significant influence in the Assam Assembly, acting as a prominent voice against the BJP government. Consequently, the BJP government appears apprehensive of MLA Kamalakhya, prompting Minister Piyush Hazarika, who is close to the Chief Minister and serves as the Guardian Minister of Karimganj district, to make what critics have dubbed as false and fabricated comments in an attempt to diminish the MLA's reputation among the Barak and Assamese communities.
